PS: Is it true that council staff are banned from accessing YouTube - despite the council claiming to be at the forefront of modern communication?

Yes, Youtube is barred (though this long predates the Tory takeover and matches similar bansd at other councils & companies). Which means we can't even view LBHF's own Youtube channel. We are encouraged to look at it via our own home PCs.

No problem with Facebook - yet.

So they haven't banned access to hfconwatch - yet?

Just flipflops!

No, as the h&f council worker says, you can't access YouTube from the council's computer systems. But just to repeat - that's been the case for a long time, and is more to do with bandwidth issues than any form of censorship!!! I don't know of many councils/private companies that do allow YouTube access for the very same reasons.

I doubt Facebook will become an issue - it's nowhere near as resource hungry as video streaming.

No disrespect, but I doubt hfconwatch would be considered worthy of a 'ban'...

People was accessing it, I work for the council. In fact they asked staff to leave comments on the Down Down video in their original message about it. People were looking at the video more to see the comments it was getting -they were not compliments-and laughing at the council. I saw the video myself at work. The council took you tube down and the video within about 2 weeks of putting Down Down up.I dont know whether they specifically allowed you tube to be viewed for that video release. It's probable that the person who wrote in who is an employee did not grasp this small window of free thought that the council allowed or works in a different building to me. The council has recently put a message on the staff intranet about HFTV on you tube. I hear the videos only allow comments they like, others are censored. Why don't you try it. They say that you tube can't be accessed at work because of streaming problems. You get the "ACCESS DENIED" sign for sites they like to block as with you tube now. It maybe technical and effects other areas of the computer system I dont know but I don't believe them because as I say where I was we were watching the video and I know it is true of at least 2 other council buildings. I suspect that they do not want people at work watching you tube for the reason that they dont want other videos being viewed and as they saw from the original Down Down no one employed by this council is likely to put good comments about them.

There are various gateways to YouTube: going through the main route via www.youtube.com was always barred, but there used to be ways in via URLs like youtube.co.uk. Looks like these have been blocked too, drat.

Anyway, almost no one has a sound card here.
