Dubai is a long way to go to escape local Tory politics in Hammersmith & Fulham.
But that's where the Conservative councillor for Sands End, Jeanette Bentley, has gone - for a job apparently, according to the Bristow blog. She hasn't been seen in the borough for months so had to resign.
The by-election in Sands End takes place on 1 May, at the same time as the London mayoral election, thereby guaranteeing a higher than normal turnout in a ward which has faced huge Tory cuts in local services and facilities.
Which Conservative councillor will be the next to stand down?

What do you expect from someone who only lived in the borough for less than 5 years before she deemed herslef qualified to start telling us what to do. Why didn't she take the other notorious self publicists the Mayoress lived here 5 years and Bristow lived here 5 years with her. We all know Bristows background (to a point) he is a career politition who will shoot off as soon as he can and leave us with his mess. But what of the Mayoress -where's she from and how did she get to be Mayoress after 5 years living here. Smells to me.
What's the smell?
What's the smell?
I've been told most people that join a party get "tough seats" to start with. She gets a prime ward as a newcomer The people who get deselected are popular in the ward. There is a big stink in that there is accusations of deselection due to one cllr being a gay arab the other a single mum - the sort of "prejudice" that has haunted tories in the past. Anyway she gets the post in this safe ward. But she only wins it narrowly against the 2 tories deselected who stood as independants so it clearly wasn't popular with the voting tories. Yet she gets made mayoress. Why are they going out on a limb for her. There must be a reason. I wonder what it is?
